K-12 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR MATHEMATICS FROM THINK IT BY HAND
For elementary and secondary students, the use of manipulatives is critical to a broad and successful understanding of mathematics. From arithmetic to algebra, students need to link their thinking to a tactile and visual experience so that they can understand and connect essential concepts in mathematics.
Our professional development will provide teachers with a hands-on experience in math education that is insightful, comprehensive, and exciting. Teachers will see and experience how manipulatives are used in the elementary and secondary grades for teaching arithmetic, fractions, algebra, and geometry. Teachers will also be able to immediately apply this training within their classroom and see first hand how their students will become increasingly interested and more successful in math.
As trainers, we share with teachers a love and passion for math education.
Professional development sessions are versatile to meet the needs of the district and school(s). As a general guideline, we suggest that teacher training sessions range in length from 90 minutes to not more than 5 hours per group for K-6, and not less than 90 minutes to not more than 2.5 hours per group for secondary. Back to back sessions are welcome.
Please note that classroom observation lessons can be arranged. In-class lessons enable teachers to observe a grade level lesson within a host classroom. In-class lessons can be arranged for any grade level and school within your district. In-class lessons provide a valuable opportunity for teachers to see the spirit as well as the content of the instruction within an actual classroom setting.
The cost of professional development training is $175.00 per hour of instruction with a five hour minimum per day per trainer, plus travel expenses. There is no charge for the time of travel.
